Our committee members organize year-round fundraisers to collect funds needed for the program. Depending on the amount of funds raised, the local schools are contacted and applications are sent home with all the students.
Information obtained from the applications is then processed to determine the need of the family. If the family is chosen, we then are able to determine the amount of money that we are able to spend on each child.
This amount is dependant on the number of children signed up vs. the amount of funds raised from fundraisers and donations.
At that time, a volunteer group is formed and we shop for clothing and toys for the children.
Our volunteers then wrap the presents, place name tags on them for the children and the presents are ready to be delivered.
Delivery is the best, most rewarding part of our program. Our local fire fighters and our volunteers dressed as Santa, pull up at the childs' home with lights and sirens going. Then Santa delivers the presents to the children and gives them candy canes and spends a few moments talking with them.
The look on the childres faces and their reactions when they hear the sirens and see the lights of the fire trucks, and Santa comming to see them, is what makes our work special and very rewarding.
To children who otherwise would not have a Christmas, it is truely a sense of Magic.
